Chieftains and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are
upbeat about the reluctance of President Muhammadu Buhari to make
appointments into federal parastatals as well as Government Ministries,
Department and Agencies (MDAs).
Few days to the first anniversary of the administration, the APC
bigwigs are displeased that Buhari is yet to overhaul the parastatals

Pastoralism or Terrorism?: The Killing Culture of the Neo-Nomadic, By Wole Soyinka
I have not heard an order given that
any cattle herder caught with sophisticated firearms be instantly
disarmed, arrested, placed on trial, and his cattle confiscated… Let me
repeat, and of course I only ask to be corrected if wrong: I have yet to
encounter a terse, rigorous, soldierly and uncompromising language from
this leadership, one that threatens a response to this unconscionable
blood-letting that would make even Boko Haram repudiate its founding
clerics.
Herdsmen, let us appreciate, are perhaps humanity’s earliest known tourists. They must be taught however that there is a culture of settlement, and learn to seek accommodation with settled hosts wherever encountered. The leadership of any society cannot stand idly and offer solutions that implicitly deem the massacres of innocents mere incidents on the way to that learning school.

“Herdsmen” and the gathering storm
We are deeply perturbed by the
escalating conflicts between heavily-armed cattle herdsmen and indigenous
communities, especially in the four geopolitical zones of North Central, South
East, South West and South-South.
We have raised the alarm several
times on this issue. Our voice has resonated with those of countless other
Nigerians in the swelling chorus of calls on the Federal Government to
frontally and immediately mobilise the Nigerian armed forces to arrest the
menace of these gunmen.

Trump: If Clinton ‘were a man, I don’t think she’d get 5 percent of the vote’
“Frankly, if Hillary Clinton were a man, I don't think she'd get 5 percent of the vote. The only thing she's got going is the women's card,” Trump said during a news conference at Trump Tower. “And the beautiful thing is, women don't like her."
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie’s wife, Mary Pat, who was standing behind Trump, appeared to react negatively as he made the comments.
The episode is the latest in a long line of Trump remarks widely seen as sexist or offensive toward women, and it underscores the serious difficulties Trump will face in garnering support from female voters if he is the GOP nominee.

The Road To Kigali by Femi Fani-Kayode
Very interesting read
In 1994 almost one million Tutsis were murdered in cold blood in the space of on month by members of the ruling Hutu tribe in Kigali, Rwanda. The genocide that took place in Rwanda at that time ranks as one if the most sordid chapters of African history and it must never be allowed to happen anywhere again on our continent.
Sadly we do not appear to have learnt the lessons of Kigali in our country probably because most Nigerians have no knowledge of history because it is not taught in our schools.
That
single failing and lack of knowledge may well lead to our final undoing
as a nation because the parallels and signs of what led to the butchery
and tragedy that occurred in Rwanda are unfolding here today. The dark
clouds of blood are gathering but most of our people cannot even see
them.
The
title of this essay owes an intellectual debt of gratitude to my friend
and brother Chief Dele Momodu who happens to be one of the most
engaging writers and columnists in Nigeria today. "Bobby Dee", as Dele
is better known to his close friends, was a strong supporter of the June 12 struggle and something of a protégée of the late and great Chief MKO Abiola, the winner of the June 12th presidential election in 1993.
