The Syrian Football Association have
revealed that they have submitted a formal offer to Jose Mourinho to become the
new head coach of their national team.
Mourinho has been out of work since
being sacked by Chelsea in December, just seven months after leading the Blues
to the Premier League title.
The 53-year-old has been linked with
the Manchester United post since his departure, but Syria have launched an
audacious bid to entice the Portuguese boss in their quest to reach the 2018 World
Cup.
"After a meeting between the
president of the Syrian Football Federation; Salahuddin Ramadan, the
vice-president of the Syrian Union Chairman of the national teams, the director
of the first team, Fadi Dabbas and secretary-general of the Syrian Football
Federation Qutaiba al-Rifaiit, it was agreed to send a formal offer to the
agency of the coach Jose Mourinho to train the Syrian national football
team," read a statement on the Syrian FA's official Facebook page.
