Burglars have
targeted the relatives of shamed paedophile footballer Adam Johnson stealing
thousands of pounds worth of valuables in two simultaneous raids.
The former England
star was warned by a judge to get his affairs in order following his conviction
at Bradford Crown Court for grooming a 15-year-old girl.
Johnson, 28, was
found guilty of one count of sexual activity with a child. He earlier had
pleaded guilty to a count of sexual activity of a child and one charge of child
grooming. He has been warned that he faces an almost inevitable prison
sentence.
Raiders targeted the
home of his parents, David, 55, and Sonia, 49 on November 29, last year, while
the player was awaiting trial.
They also broke into
the home of his 23-year-old sister Faye.
As well as stealing
valuables, the thieves caused serious damage to both houses.
The shamed
footballer has brought in a security team to protect his £1.5 million mansion
in Castle Eden, County Durham.
According to The
Sun, security guards at the former footballer's home said: 'He's hired us to
patrol the grounds. We have got the dogs because he has received numerous
threats from the public.
'Don't stand close
to the gates because the dogs can easily clear them.'
Durham Police said
they are investigating reports of a burglary on November 29 last year.
A spokeswoman said:
'On arrival, two men fled the scene and car keys were recovered from the
garden.
'Enquiries led to
the discover that another property had been broken into in the same area. A
motorbike, watches and jewellery were stolen. Two men were arrested on
suspicion of burglary and were subsequently released without charge.'
